PAST GLORY SHOWS, THE STRUGGLE WITHIN!

The photo festival Naarden 2011, wants to connect as many people as possible with high quality and creative photography and therefore be a base for the Dutch photographers. The 12th edition of the festival is dedicated to "The Portrait". The Portrait, under the title "Let's face it" was chosen as the topic because the Dutch, from a historical perspective, are world famous for their portraits. For centuries the Dutch make great portraits. By Rembrandt and Vermeer to contemporary versions...

Many thanx to Eduard Plantin and Feiko Koster, curators at the Fotofestival Naarden

YANOZ / DAHNIELE / DIMHY / DIOHN / RAPFHAEL

I've always had trouble photographing people, this because I found it very dificult to express myself. But since my divorce, this fear is dissapeared, nowadays it's a pleasure to give my emotions as well as enjoying emotions from others. My intention is to bring the subconscious to the surface, waiting for the right moment the person to show their deepest expression. Every person has a backpack with life experiences that we often hide and supposedly try to forget. This so called unconscious shadow side belongs to us and these moments I find interesting to capture.

"The Struggle Within", is my first portrait series. These portraits are photographed only lighted by natural light [outside], no flashlight or studiolamps. Though sometimes with the use of a reflection screen. Photoshop is used to make all portraits more aligned and to create the atmosphere.

Big thanks go to, Dimitri de Wit, Daniel Terlien, Dyon Admiraal and myself. But also to Marcel van Dugteren for his support! And Souverein for the stunning art prints.

PREPARATION AND ASSEMBLE OF THE ARTWORKS AT "FOTOFESTIVAL NAARDEN"

After finishing the works, finally it's time to relax a bit. After some heavy doubts and time waste, everything worked out exactly as it was meant to be. In a few days there is time to make some more portraits in this specific style. New plans and rough testing for new series are done!

The storage shed "Gele Loods" (Yellow Pilot) is an oblong wooden building on stone base of over 45 meters long and 6 meters wide. Originally the building contained only one long room and an attic. It was built around 1880 as storage for the Genie, the military service which was responsible for the maintenance of the fortress. Later it was a storehouse for the equipment of the Artillery Regiment Engine that since 1933 in Naarden banked.
